About Taichi

Taichi is a therapeutic exercise that originated as a martial art. The movements are designed to develop and strengthen the internal aspects of the body, thereby promoting better health and wellness. The concept of promoting the free flow of the body’s natural energy, which is referred to as CHI, is the pathway for achieving this balance and harmony resulting in improved health and well-being. Taichi is preventative in nature, which is one of the pillars of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Balance is obtained through gentle flowing movements coupled with breathing and mental focus. Although the movements are slow in nature, Taichi can actually provide you with a very good cardio vascular workout.

In some ways, Taichi is considered the martial art of “deception”. The movements use internal energy – too subtle for most to observe, reflected in the notion that “four ounces can deflect a thousand pounds”. At this level, a defender can use a small amount of energy to neutralize the far greater external force of an attacker.
In addition, a great bonus to learning Taichi is that you can incorporate the principles in your everyday life.
